14 Days of Black People - Day 12

Will Smith

Gettin' jiggy wit' it.

Today’s entry in “14 Days of Black People” is A-list celebrity Will Smith. Of course, Smith rose to fame as an actor alongside his friend and longtime producer DJ Jazzy Jeff. Many of us first remember Smith for his NBC sitcom, “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”. In honor of that show, I have written today’s entry from the voice of Will Smith himself. Although the flow is bad (I wrote this in less than an hour, shove off), it is meant to go with the music from the “Fresh Prince” theme song

Now this is a story all about how
My life got flipped, turned upside down
And I’d like to take a minute,
Just sit right there
I’ll tell you how I became the richest
Motherfucker in L.A.

In West Philadelphia, born and raised
Got my first Grammy back in 1988
Had an NBC sitcom, critics thought was cool
And soon enough I was starring in some movies too
“Independence Day”, “Enemy of the State”
Did I mention “Men in Black”? That was pretty great
Turned down being Neo to make “Wild Wild West”
And despite that mistake, I’m still Hollywood’s best

I whistled for my limo, and when it came near
I remembered gas prices were steep in here
If anything, I could say this fear was rare
I yelled, “20-mil a movie?”
“Let’s drive everywhere!”

“I am Legend” came out around ‘07 or ‘8
And my daughter made a song that everyone hates
Got more gifts in crib my than Santa in his sleigh
Because I’m the richest motherfucker in L.A.
