28 Days of Black People - Day 08
Mighty Joe Jon: The Black Blond

Television: What is it? For many, it’s a way of life. I know you all watch TV because if you didn’t, you’d tell everybody all of the time. I can’t stand self-righteous nerds who insist on telling everybody that dropping cable was the best thing they’ve ever done. “Oh, I have SO much more time for gardening and masturbating to my own boring sense of ethics!” they say. It’s the equivalent of asking your friend Teddy, “Hey, have you tried the steak at that new bistro? It’s amazing” only to have an annoying vegan asshole creep in and smugly tell you, “Oh yeah, I went to that bistro, but I ate a SALAD because I’m not a MURDERER.” Nobody cares about your moral crusades. Meat is delicious and easily consumable, just like a good television show.
Speaking of good television shows, today’s featured black person is Mighty Joe Jon: The Black Blond, a character from the Adult Swim program “Delocated”. I’m going to say this up front: “Delocated” is one of my favorite shows ever. I have no idea why none of my friends watch it. It’s surreal, witty, and laugh-out-loud funny. It’s also lead to me using the phrase “bone zone” in every day conversation, so that has to be worth something. In the show, Mighty Joe Jon: The Black Blond is an eccentric TV network executive who will stop at nothing to ensure his shows get good ratings. Hopefully this clip will enlighten you to his greatness:
Look, I could gush about this show all day and night. I could talk about how actor Jerry Minor has completely nailed playing Mighty Joe Jon: The Black Blond. I could, but I won’t. Instead, I will sit here and pray for a third season, because Adult Swim needs hilarious shows that aren’t about talking balls of meat. And, if “Delocated” does not return, we will never forget it, nor the last time we saw it… as it prepared for the journey and waved goodbye and slipped the surly bonds of earth to touch the face of God.
